It takes a while for spring to come out here in the prairies. Most people think spring is here when the blossoms start to grow on the tips of the trees or flowers start to sprout out of the ground, but for us, spring starts way earlier then when it starts to get nice out. Our spring starts in April when the cows start caving. They have to be checked every morning and evening. We have been out some mornings where it was snowing so hard that when you looked up all you could see was white. You might think it’s impossible to get stuck in a snow bank and have to get pulled out by a tractor in April, but out here in Saskatchewan anything seems possible. After caving goes by, May comes and the seeding starts. After waiting for the snow to go and the water puddles in the fields to dry, all farmers are jumping to get in the field. May brings a lot of other things to, chickens, pigs, riding horses and getting ready to garden. Signs of spring start to come through the weather now too. The wind and sun slowly melt the ice over the river until there is nothing left but crashing blue waves. Green grass starts to grow along the house and blossoms start to cover the trees. Spring means lots of things on the prairies and i am so glad that i get to experience it. love Ella
