The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate

When I first saw The One and Only Ivan, I thought I would never read it. And even when it got brought inside, it sat on the table for a week before I picked it up and started to read. To be honest, I didn’t know a thing about the book. But when I finally picked it up and read it, I was amazed by the story.

The One and Only Ivan is a book about a gorilla who lives at Exit 8 Big Top Mall and Video Arcade. He and his neighbor elephant, Stella. One day a baby elephant comes, a baby elephant named Ruby. When Stella sadly dies, her last wish to Ivan is that he takes care of Ruby. The short chapters explain the book and characters in such clear ways that you just want to keep reading. The friendly, heartwarming story is definitely in my top 10 favorite stories. I enjoyed that it’s in the perspective of Ivan. I liked how the story was written and also liked how it was put together and how the author explained it. I would reread this book in a heartbeat and hope it’s the same with you. I loved this book and would definitely recommend it . Love Ella
