We step into the glittering ball room. Silk green and gold streamers fall gently from the ceiling and the chatter of the people slows and everyone stands. I spot Colin in the third row smiling at me with that beautiful smile of his.
“ Ladies and gentlemen, please be silent.” The main guard calls out. Trumpets start and mother guides me down the aisle sprinkled with flowers. I reach the front and mother lets me go, sitting down in her front row seat. The trumpets end their song and everyone sits and faces the front.
“ Lady Amelia, you may start your speech,” the main guard says nodding to the scroll in my hand. I take a shaky breath and look out at the crowd.
“ First, I would like to thank all of you for coming to this special event tonight,it means a lot to me. Secondly I think I better thank my parents for giving me such a wonderful childhood. My mother taught me how to cook, how to be brave, how to love and how to learn. My father taught me how to be strong, how to be humble, how to be honest and how to never give up. I will always love you guys.”
I can see my mother in the front row trying hard to not cry.
“And Lastly I would like to thank my sister. Thank you Hazel for always being here, through the hard, through the grief, through the happiness and most importantly through all of the happy memories. I will never leave you.” I look out to the crowd and smile.
“ Now let the ball begin!” The guard calls out and everyone stands and heads to the dance floor. Music starts, slow at first but getting faster and faster as we dance. Halfway through the night Colin comes over and sticks out his hand.
“ Want to dance?” He asks, his hand still sticking out.
“ Yes, I would love to,” I say grabbing his hand and pulling him to the dance floor.
Just then an ear splitting scream comes from the kitchen and we all take off running.
