The morning before the ball

I walk down the marble staircase, my diamond high heels click-clacking. I hear talking and laughing as I approach the dining hall. One voice in particular that I didn’t think I was going to hear until Saturday. I run into the hall and hug my father so tight he coughed a bit. ” Father!!” l say tears streming down my face.

” Hello my sweet girl.” he says

“I thought you weren’t going to be home till Saturday!” i hug him again. My father is never home on my birthday.

“I wasn’t, but I thought it would be nice if I was here today.”

I hug him tighter.

“Sit honey and have some pancakes and French toast.” Mother says bringing in a plate of strawberrys.

I sit down next to my sister Hazel her amber hair puled back into a tight bun.

“Happy 16th Amelia!” Hazel says and wraps me in a hug. “Are you excited for your ball?” She asks.

“Yes and no…” I reply

Father clears is throat and Hazel lets me go.

“Amelia you need to look over the guest list one more time.”Father says

” Oh no Jeremey she is the birthday girl we don’t have to bother her with that. I will get one of the maids to do that.” Mother says to father.

” Well then we better all start preparing for the big night ahead.” Father says and stands to leave. ” See you later my sweet girl.” Father says with a wink.

” Your fathers right, Hazel will you help me in the kitchen?” Mother asks

” Yes just one second.” Hazel looks at me. She hands me a small box with a light green ribbon.”I was going to give it to you tonight when everybody else does, but I just couldn’t wait. She hands me the box and and I open it to find a necklace with a heart shaped diamond and a gold A in the middle.

“Hazel!” I say as I wrap her in a big hug.

“I hope you like it.” Hazel says

” I love it!” I hug her again

” Hazel come here!” Mother calls from the kitchen. I give Hazel one last hug and then she runs to the kitchen. I walk out of the Dining hall, my new necklace hanging around my neck. Maids were running around preparing for the ball. I didn’t know what it was, but i felt different in a way. Ready for whatever was ahead.
